Easily confused, a little prone to being overly talkative, and very much not in the habit of actually ever trying to hurt someone, most people who meet Amber find it very hard to believe she might be a necromancer. Until she says something obvious, because it's not like Amber is very good at hiding it.

Born with an entirely different name, Amber was a fairly mediocre earth mage with a locally famous and talented earth mage mother and no known father. Feeling stifled and forced into a path of magic she clearly had no skills for by her mother, when her mother died of illness in Amber's teenage years she ransacked her mother's library in search of something that came more easily to her- which she found in the form of a small black-bound book, locked away very safely indeed. Sure, it was necromancy, but what was the harm in it? And necromancy, unlike her mother's magic, came very easily to Amber. And it wasn't particularly like the dead needed their bodies any more, after all, if their souls were in the afterlife their life choices had sent them to.

Unfortunately, the families of the dead took quite a lot of offence to the corpses of their loved ones being disturbed, and it wasn't that long before Amber's house was stormed and burnt, leaving Amber barely alive. With just enough earth magic to heal herself enough to leave town, she's since spent most of her time away from human company, alone apart from the corpses she's managed to raise since, inhabiting an abandoned farm. The trauma of the fire caused her memories to be fragmented and mostly forgotten, a loss which sometimes bothers her more than she wants to say.

She did, for a while, join an adventuring team. It actually worked pretty well for Amber, letting her personality stabilise and giving her a taste for company that sometimes talked back. They did quite a few things together, giving Amber an entirely new set of uses for her magic, before they inevitably drifted apart after two of the party died.

These days Amber still lives mostly alone and well away from society, apart from the occasional visitor and the one or two dead she keeps around. And the occasional hero who gets the wrong end of the stick and tries to end the evil necromancer, although most of them leave after a cup of tea and a long chat. But sometimes... sometimes she'd like company. Preferably company without pitchforks or flaming torches.
